Marine Safety Notice

Nova Mare is decision-support software provided by Nova Mare LLC. This notice explains the limits that matter for safe operation at sea.

Effective 6 October 2026 · Version 2026-10-06.2 · Questions: teams@novamare.org

Nova Mare supports your decision. It does not make it.

Nova Mare provides decision support, not certified navigation, engineering, medical, alarm, distress or continuous-monitoring services. The captain's judgment controls. Verify critical decisions and work with qualified professionals and applicable manufacturer, flag-state and class requirements, and use official emergency channels when needed.

The captain retains command and must use independent judgment based on conditions aboard. Owners, operators and responsible professionals must meet their own duties under applicable law; this notice does not transfer or waive any non-waivable duty of Nova Mare LLC.

Where AI output is weakest

Treat guidance with extra caution when:

  • your vessel record is new or incomplete — fewer documents means weaker reasoning
  • equipment is non-standard, modified or fitted with parts from another model
  • a symptom involves fuel, gas, electrical bonding, steering, through-hull fittings or fire
  • a part number is matched by description rather than confirmed against your documentation
  • an hour reading, serial number or model is entered by hand and may be wrong
  • telemetry, weather, position or external-source information is stale, unavailable, delayed or simulated

Never use Nova Mare as your only source for

  • life-safety or alarm systems: liferafts, EPIRBs, fire suppression, gas detection, bilge alarms or distress monitoring
  • structural, class or flag-state compliance decisions
  • electrical or fuel work carried out while the vessel is occupied or afloat without a competent person present
  • navigation, passage planning, weather routing, collision avoidance or any certified bridge function
  • medical diagnosis or treatment — contact qualified medical and emergency services

In an emergency

Do not wait for or rely on Nova Mare. Follow the vessel's emergency procedures and use VHF DSC distress, EPIRB, the relevant coastguard or local emergency services. Nova Mare is not a distress or continuous-monitoring service and does not dispatch emergency assistance.

Beta Vessel Connectivity

Connected-vessel telemetry is not a certified alarm or monitoring system and must not be relied upon to detect a developing casualty. Data can be delayed, stale, unavailable, incorrectly mapped or incomplete. A displayed value or the absence of an alert never proves the vessel or equipment is safe.

Verify critical readings at the source, check manufacturer documentation, and obtain qualified professional, flag-state or class advice when the decision calls for it.

Read-only and stale records

When a vessel is read-only, for example after complimentary or paid access ends, Nova Mare stops receiving new live data and stops generating new AI analysis for it. Readings, briefs, alerts and maintenance status shown are the last ones saved and are marked with when they were last updated; they are not live monitoring and may no longer reflect the vessel.

Do not rely on read-only or stale records for safety, navigation or emergency decisions. Paid access does not certify a vessel, its equipment or its crew, and it does not change any limit in this notice.

Reporting something unsafe

If Nova Mare gives guidance you believe is unsafe or wrong, tell us at teams@novamare.org with the vessel, the equipment and what was suggested. Safety reports are reviewed ahead of everything else.
